2016 Chamber of Commerce Collaboration

Picture
Welcome to the homepage of the 2016 Loranger Memorial School grade 3 & OOB Chamber of Commerce collaboration! This page is dedicated to sharing resources and student experiences so students, parents, and community members can stay attune to the hard work of our students.

We will explore 4 content areas with each 3rd teacher taking a lead and Cynthia Nye (literacy and project specialist), Marc, and Kim supporting the entire process.  The content areas are:
  • Economy (Mr. C)
  • Culture (Mrs. McSorley)
  • Ecology (Mrs. Wilder)
  • History (Mrs. Lees)

Each class will explore an introduction to these content areas from the specializing teacher. After each student receives the introduction and exposure to each content area, we'll break into groups based on student interest and dive deeper into creating content to be authored by our students.
Examples of final products could include but not limited to field guides, art displays, blog reviews, producing postcards, informational videos, instructions for "things to do on a rainy day", photography, etc.

Each student's creativity will be challenged and their voice and choice honored. After all, this is for kids, by kids, so their voice is crucial. We will be on a timeline, teaching students the importance of managing a project and meeting deadlines. Our focus aims to teach kids how to take the content skills they learn and apply those skills with a real purpose and audience. Running parallel to this experience will be a persuasive writing essay where all students will try to persuade tourists to visit Old Orchard Beach.

In the end, student work will then be displayed in multiple places for the benefit of our tourists: Chamber website under "Kids Corner," a multitouch iBook for download at local businesses, Chamber lobby TV, 2017 Vacation Planner, the Chamber walls, and various kiosks around town.

We look forward to an awesome journey!
