Intro
Now that we're settled in and I've got a feel for your children, we've made a plan to introduce your child to both analog and digital means of organizing, curating, and creating portfolios of student work. I'll show your child the possibilities, but ultimately they'll start to make decisions that work best for their organizational styles. Read on below to see how this works.
Analog | Anolog Supply List |
All students will keep a large 3-ring binder notebook to collect their work. We'll collect all of our subject work here in this notebook, including our growth mindset and digital citizenship journals. If your child wish to have more then 1 notebook, that is fine, but all students will have 1 large 3-ring binder. Additionally, students will need a composition note, sticky notes, and pencils. | - Large, 3-ring binder - Dividers for notebook - Lined paper for notebook - Composition notebook - Sticky notes - Pencils |
Digital
Our 2 primary means of collecting and curating our work digitally will be with Google Classroom & Seesaw. Collecting and storing their work will create a portfolio to show their growth throughout the year. Additionally, students will be able to tell stories and make their thinking visual through video, audio, and various apps and iMovie. They can also take photos of their analog work, and post through Seesaw and Google Classroom. I've found the combination or analog and digital may make sense for some students. Again, we just want to figure out what works best for each other your child's learning style. It's my job to expose them to the possibilities, and then we make a plan together that will work for each child.
Google Classroom & Drive
We are a Google Apps for Education school district. In short, this means we have free access to the google suite of tools including Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Draw, etc.), a collaborative platform similar to Microsoft Word. Google Classroom is a part of these tools. I assign virtually all of our work via Google Classroom. I do this because it allows me to present the materials in a variety of formats so I can reach all learners, including instructional videos created by me and various digital resources. Students have 24-7 access, so they can go back and review the materials with you at home, here at school, or whenever they need. Check out my instructional video below so you'll learn the basics of Google Classroom. There will be more details on how we use Google Classroom coming as the year unfolds.
Google Classroom Parent Access
I will "share" your student Google Classroom folder with you via email. There is no direct parent access at this time.

iety of formats. For example, they could take a picture of their work, and add an audio recording explaining their work. They could share a link to a blog or video they create. One of my favorite parts is you can follow along at home. You'll have access to view, comment, and interact with your child. See some examples of how Seesaw is being used in OOB!
