Intro
Now that the dust has settled on a crazy beginning of the year, I'm happy to introduce our very first "What's Happening in Mr. C's" blog for September. This monthly blog will celebrate all our successes, look into our short and long term futures, and end with some general updates and community news. I'll share videos, pictures, and everything I can to make you feel a part of the school day experience. If you have any feedback, or things you'd like me to include, please share by contacting me by phone, text, email, or Class Messenger. Thank you!
4 C's Challenge
We just wrapped up our 4 C's Challenge! You can click here to view the entire challenge. This was a terrific way to introduce and build a foundational understanding of communication, collaboration, creativity & innovation, and critical thinking & problem solving. It's my belief that these skills are most important to developing hard working, successful students.
Throughout the process, students bonded with their new classmates and enjoyed friendly competition and some heart felt moments. We had a blast and learned a lot of key language we'll be building on throughout the school year. One of the best parts of the challenges was a Mystery Skype with a class in California (see video). This allowed our students to practice our 4 C's skills along the way. Read this blog on the Mystery Skype concept.
We also took some time to build our class 4 C's Anchor charts. Click here to see the anchor charts. See some example pictures below and a video of the 20 paper engineering challenge and Mystery Skype in action.

Growth Mindset Lessons
We want our students to believe they can learn anything, because they were born to learn! Over the course of the first 2 months of school, we have a series of 10 amazing interactive growth mindset lessons that will teach students the value of working hard, having a positive attitude, accepting mistakes happen, and overcoming obstacles. These activities intertwine many of our 4 C's work to kick the year off. Check the video out we'll be watching during our first lesson, "I was born to learn," below. You can take a sneak peak at our growth mindset interactive journals by clicking here.

Digital Citizenship Lessons
Digital Citizenship is explicitly taught on a weekly basis throughout the year. Teaching digital citizenship (#digcit) is vital to ensure our kiddos become safe & responsible online citizens. We can break down #digcit into 9 categories: Internet Safety, Privacy & Security, Relationships & Communication, Cyberbullying, Digital Footprint & Reputation, Self-Image & Identity, Information Literacy, and Creative Credit & Copyright. Click here to visit our Digital Citizenship page and click here to see our weekly curriculum map.

Connected Classroom - Follow Us!
The power of being connected is amazing! Our students will publish products and presentations along with communicating and collaborating with classrooms from around the world. This will open their minds to new ways of thinking and to the amazing cultural diversity around the world. Click here to see our Twitter page and click here to see our YouTube Channel. Many parents have signed up for Twitter and are following our class.

Class Calender
I've created a class calendar that will update you with all you need about each school day. Field trips, special events, and the daily class schedule are available. The calendar (see below) is on the home page of our website - mistercloranger.weebly.com. Again, I'd love some feedback and advice to make this better. Is there anything else you'd like to see on the calendar?
